Losing weight as you near 40....

I have been trying to lose weight since the first of the year. After 5 weeks of vigilant dieting I managed to take off almost 8 pounds. Now, I have been really good with cutting out all sweets...hardly ever taking a cheat day and working out numerous times a week. In the past ....all this hard work would have resulted in a much more substantial weight loss. Since my birthday was last week I had a few days where I didn't really stick to my diet. After straying for about 2 and half days...not straight...one day off...two days on...one day off. I put back on 4 pounds....HALF of my total loss. Well, I am just devastated over this setback. I feel like all the hard work I've done is for absolutely nothing. And with my vacation coming up next week...I feel like I will put on even more weight. So all that dieting and working out for the last 5 weeks was for nothing??? I'm so depressed over this. I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older or what the deal is. Has anyone gone through the same thing and/or have any tips to get the ball rolling more quickly???

  1. Wendy,

Your determination to get healther is admirable - losing weight, stopping smoking and getting fitter will help you to enjoy your life and family even more. For nutrition tips, you might want to check out the "Runners World" website. They have nutritional tips and plans that might help you. I became a runner after my first set of twins were born. (My wife and I have two sets of twins, ages 9 and 4 - three boys and a princess.) The nutrition is the toughest part, but with some work, you can learn how to do it right. You need to concentrate on eating good foods, (like whole grain breads) keeping sugar and alcohol to minimum and especially, cutting out fast food and eating healthy snacks. Good luck, your hard work will pay off, if you keep with it.
