Scammed!

I consider myself to be a somewhat intelligent person but I fell for a recent computer virus/scam hook, line and sinker! It's the Security Tools virus and once it starts popping up it will not go away. It kept telling me that I needed to download this "security tools" to get rid of the harmful virus infecting my computer and I ignored it at first but then my computer actually shut itself down saying it was protecting myself from this virus. Sooooo....I bought and downloaded the "security tools" and was charged a bargain price of 50 bucks for two years. A day or two goes by and alas....who shows up again...the warning that I need to dowloan security tools. But wait...I already did that and it says that if you already have it then type in your serial number. Hmmm...they never sent me a serial number. In fact...they never sent me anything...an e-mail confirming that I now have the "virus protector". With the help of my brother....we think we may have been able to rid the computer of this bad worm. I'm not quite sure yet since I have spent very little time on my computer since getting my new Droid (who needs computers now) but of course I still want my computer to work and not lose anything I already have on there. I will need to check back again to make sure it is gone for good but I'm still quite embaressed that I fell for it to begin with.

Luckily, I put it on my credit card and they have agreed to dispute the charge. Hopefully that will get me out of at least paying for it. Nothing worse than having to pay 50 bucks to prove how stupid you are.....

Am I the only one who has fallen victim to such nasty viruses???

  1. I really hate to say it but if you have been using a decent A/V for years why do people fall for something that is nothing more then a pop up.
People that will not contact you on your computer
IRS, UPS, YOUR BANK, MICROSOFT, Basically any legitimate company.
The funny thing is that if people quit falling for these scams, they would eventually go away.

  2. A few people at my work had this virus, and from what our IT people have told us is that the hackers that created this virus have access to your credit card info once you put it in your computer, and it was created to steal this info. Please be careful and check this out, you don't want these crazy people having this info.
